The Ins and Outs of Crane Inspections

Your cranes must be inspected annually by a qualified person. This is public knowledge. What the inspection actually consists of is not as widely known. Let us help familiarize you with the process so that you may feel more comfortable about your crane inspections.

A person who is deemed capable of inspecting cranes must be competent to identify current or future problems. Inspectors do not need to be licensed or certified. However, Roaring Brook Consultants conducts inspections that are supervised by 1919 OSHA Approved Surveyors. This means that they follow the precise guidelines of OSHA. ( as well as endure d the difficult application process.)?? We hold our inspectors to the highest standards.

The inspector should inspect the crane, not just look it over.?? The inspector has to get "hands on" with the crane, as well as look into the crane's background. What are past problems with the crane? Who last inspected it last?

The inspector should examine the facade of the crane as well as its the functional aspects, and should conduct a load test.

Inspection time will vary, as will inspection cost, depending on, among other things, the size of the crane.

Don't accept or allow a "quickie" inspection; make sure to question a "cheap" inspection. Remember: you get what you pay for.

How well do you trust your inspector to do the job he/she does well? If you are not sure how to answer this question, you may want to talk with other companies to learn who inspects their cranes. Compare cost with time spent. Also, you should always be able to call up a crane inspector to discuss the process, commitment free. Here at Roaring Brook Consultants we welcome any questions regarding the crane inspection process. We want to make the process familiar to you.
